So the question came up, could we, while the plasmid DNA was outside of a cell, could we take the plasmid apart, rearrange it in different ways or add genes to an additional plasmid, and then use the transformation procedure to put the composite plasmid, we didn't use the term recombinant plasmid, back into cells.
