Barcoding Biodiversity in the Philippines
DNALC Executive Director Dave Micklos spent a week in November 2017 introducing teachers from the Philippine Science High School System to methods for lab instruction in molecular genetics and genomics.
The workshop was held in the new science lab on the Eastern Vismayas Campus developed as part of the 2016 Breakthrough Junior Challenge award for Popular Vote winner, Hillary Diane Andales. Dave took the educators on a field trip to conduct a mini ecological study using DNA barcoding to identify plants, animals, and fungi from the local habitat.
