Activity description:
In this lab, you will learn about GFP (green fluorescent protein) from Aequorea victoria (a Pacific jellyfish) and how it is used in molecular research. Work with us as we utilize some of the same techniques employed by pharmaceutical companies to produce human insulin. You will follow along as we extract and purify GFP from genetically engineered bacteria.
In this experiment, you will:
• explore the history of GFP.
• learn about the practical applications of recombinant DNA technology.
• isolate and purify GFP using chromatography.
