Making of the Neandertal
In 2002, the first reconstruction of an adult Neandertal skeleton was displayed at the Dolan DNA Learning Center, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. It is a male Neandertal, composed mainly of casts from four fossil finds: La Ferrassie (France), Kebara (Israel), Spy (Belgium), and Feldhofer (Germany). Neandertals were stockily built with a large long head. The average height of a male Neandertal is thought to have been around 5'6" (this reconstruction is 5'5" tall).
