Operations performed under 1929 statute 49; under 1933 statute 243; total 292. Petitions presented to the Eugenics Board under 1933 statute 392; operations authorized by same Board 296. Types of operations performed upon males: by vasectomy, 26; castration, 27; on females: salpingectomy, 227; ovariectomy, 12; total 292, of which 156 were in State institutions, 21 in County Institutions and 115 non-Insitutional. Operations performed by years: 1929, 3; 1930, 17; 1931, 11; 1932, 18; 1933, 4; 1934, 61; 1935, 178. Of those operated upon 232 were under 30 years of age, 60 30, or over. Of those sterilized 245 were whites and 47 negroes. The totals are further classified as insane 71, epileptic 66 and feeble-minded 155. Married were 62; single 226 and widowed or divorced 4. Nearly half of the operations were performed, or authorized, with written consent of relatives. [centered score] Organizatons. Dr. Laurence H. Snyder, of the Ohio State University, addressed the Western Reserve Chapter of the Society of Sigma Xi on the evening of April 9th. His subject was "Heredity and Modern Life." Seventh Genetics Congress. The seventh international Congress of Genetics is to be held in Moscow in the second half of August, 1937. The organization committee comprises A. I. Muralov, President of the Lenin Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the U.S.S.R., Moscow; Vice-Presidents, N. I. Vavilov, Leningrad, and V. L. Komarov, Moscow; General Secretary, S. G. Levit, Moscow; and members, N. P. Gorbunov, G. D. Karpechenko, B. A. Keller, N. K. Koltzoff, T. D. Lysenko, G. K. Meister, H. J. Muller, M. S. Navashin and A. S. Serebrovsky. Titles and abstracts of papers should be in the hands of the Organization Committee by February 15, 1937. Professor Dr. Otmar Freiherr von Verschuer, formerly with Professor Eugen Fischer at Dahlem, and now Director of the Universit[umlaut over 'a']t Instituts f[umlaut over 'u']r Erbbiologie un Rassenhygiene, writes us that the House of Folkhygiene, Frankfurt a. M., which contains the Institute, is now ready for work. A picture of the house if reproduced in Fig. I. According to Dr. Verschuer he is now ready to begin his work which has the aim to utilize, first, the science of anthropology and the race doctrine of Count Gobineau; a second trail that has led to Verschuer's door is Galton's "Eugenics," and the race hygiene of Ploetz; the third is the doctrine of constitution as found in medicine; and the fourth is experimental heredity, which has had its beginnings with the rediscovery of Mendel's laws. The special tasks of the new Institute fall into three groups, investigation, instruction and practical work. Living science always demands new investigations, in the seeking of truth it finds its impulse. The rich results of genetics form the foundation for the race politic of national socialistic state and for the practice of race hygiene.
