Structural Biology Behind Disease Transmission and Drug Design - Virtual Panel Discussion

Date: Thursday, April 16, 2020
Time: 1:00 p.m. (EDT)
Duration: 60 minutes
Presenter: Sharon Pepenella, CSHL DNALC & Aleida Perez, BNL OEP
Audience: High school and above

Activity description:

In collaboration with the Long Island STEM Hub, Brookhaven National Laboratory’s (BNL) Office of Educational Programs and the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) DNA Learning Center are pleased to present the virtual panel discussion, Structural Biology Behind Disease Transmission and Drug Design.

This 60 minute discussion featuring insight from Dr. Jonathan Ipsaro (CSHL) and Dr. Alexei Soares (BNL) will complement the premiere of the Full STEM Ahead Long Island “Branching out with Bio” education video, highlighting the research of scientists and students at BNL and CSHL. This episode is part of the Full STEM Ahead Long Island educational video series, a joint venture of the Empire State Development (ESD) and the Long Island STEM Hub.

Panelists discuss the importance of using structural biology techniques to study and model protein and nucleic acid structures that are critical components to understanding disease and transmission, and the development of drugs to fight diseases such as COVID-19. Opportunities for student STEM enthusiasts are also addressed.

We are excited to share this experience with you!
