Transformation-related protein 53 binding protein 1 is also known as tumor suppressor p53 binding protein 1 (p53 binding protein 1, TP53BP1, or A0286).

Transformation-related protein 53 binding protein 1 is also known as tumor suppressor p53 binding protein 1 (p53 binding protein 1, TP53BP1, or A0286). The gene resides on human chromosome 15. The protein is made up of 1,972 amino acids and is 213 kDa. TP53BP1 is located within the nucleus and is associated with kinetochores. It is recruited to sites of DNA damage, but for this to occur the histone H4 has to be methylated. TP53BP1 may have a role in checkpoint signaling during mitosis as it binds to sites of DNA damage. Mutant mice have been generated and they show retarded growth, immunodeficiency, thymic hypoplasia, and increased occurrence of thymic lymphomas. It is believed that TP53BP1 may play a role in stabilizing the synapsis of switch regions during class switch recombination.
